“The teacher who is indeed wise does not bid you to enter the house of his wisdom but rather leads you to the threshold of your mind.” – Khalil Gibran
Wow. Summer passed in the blink of an eye. It feels like we just stepped into spring and now, fall is in the air. We are coming to the end of week 1 of session 1 of Bright IDEAS. This week has been a week of getting to know each other, learning rules, learning where the bathroom is on the cafeteria hall (for the kindergarteners) and dipping our feet into a new routine.
Changes flowed over us like a rushing river this week. Our beloved Jackson went to college this August instead of coming back to us. Now don’t get me wrong, we know he had to go. But how we will miss his smile, his kindness and his gazelle-like leaps across the gym basketball court. This blogger never had a better steal the bacon partner. Ms Kathryn left us too! But in the most wonderful way~a new position as Art Teacher at Asheville Middle School. Those kids don’t know how lucky they are! Ms. Kathryn was always a breath of fresh air, breezing in with eternal enthusiasm, organization and humor. We will miss them both terribly, but know that they are both doing the things they came into this life to do, grow up and leave and move on to fulfill a passion. We look forward to hearing from them often.
No time for moss to grow under our mourning feet, because the kids were coming and lucky us~we are pleased to be able to welcome Ms. Aleisha Smith to our staff! Ms. Smith is a new assistant at IDES and we are thrilled to have her. Hopefully, she will grace us with a blog entry and tell us about herself.
We also welcome to our staff, William Middleton. He is a student at SILSA, the School of Inquiry and Life Sciences in Asheville. He is an expert kickball player and just learned today the art of yogurt popsicle making. Keep your eye out for him, and make him welcome.
We are shaking up the snack scene this year too. We are adding more protein and stick-to-your-rib snacks. This week’s favorite~chickpea popcorn. We will post the recipe later.
More countries to study, a community service project, and some science units. This is the plan for us. We will post the schedule soon and you can follow our progress here and on our new web site, which will be up and running in no time.
